In a remarkable achievement, JioStar, the joint venture between Reliance and Disney, has expanded its pay-TV household base by 1.5 million within the initial 10 days of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The company now targets reaching 5 million new households by the end of the tournament.

Revitalizing Pay-TV Amidst Digital Surge

Contrary to the global trend of declining traditional television viewership, JioStar's CEO of Entertainment, Kevin Vaz, emphasized the enduring strength of pay-TV in India. He highlighted that the country still boasts over 100 million pay-TV households, with numbers continuing to grow. The surge in subscriptions during the IPL underscores the platform's appeal and the nation's appetite for live sports content.

Impressive Financial Performance

Since its launch, JioStar has reported revenues amounting to ₹9,497 crore, with an EBITDA of ₹266 crore. This robust financial performance is attributed to strategic content offerings and cost management, even amidst challenging macroeconomic conditions.

Expansive Content Library and Market Reach

JioStar boasts a content library of 320,000 hours, surpassing competitors like Netflix and Amazon in volume. The platform leads in seven out of eight major markets across India and operates over 100 TV channels in 10 different languages. Daily, it reaches approximately 358 million viewers, with a monthly reach exceeding 800 million individuals.

JioHotstar: A Unified Streaming Experience

Launched on February 14, 2025, the JioHotstar app integrates features from both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. Within three months, it successfully migrated over 500 million users, offering a seamless streaming experience. The platform also holds exclusive rights to premier sports events, including the IPL, ICC tournaments, and domestic leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League and Indian Super League.

Record-Breaking Viewership

During the India-New Zealand final of the Champions Trophy, JioHotstar set a global record with 61 million concurrent viewers. This milestone underscores the platform's capacity to handle massive live audiences and its position as a leader in digital streaming.

Looking Ahead

With the ongoing IPL season and a strategic focus on both television and digital platforms, JioStar is poised to redefine the entertainment landscape in India. The company's commitment to delivering diverse, high-quality content across multiple channels ensures its continued growth and relevance in a rapidly evolving market.
